The Power of Reflection: Ending the Year with Gratitude and Self-Awareness
As the year draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the many roles I play — mother, wife, friend, sorority sister, entrepreneur, and college professor. Life can feel like a constant juggling act, but this season, I’m choosing to focus on gratitude and self-awareness rather than getting lost in the chaos. It hasn’t always been easy to balance my personal and professional worlds while staying true to my purpose, but I’m learning that being intentional about self-care is essential to thriving, not just surviving.
Parenting has been one of my greatest teachers. My children constantly remind me of the beauty of living in the moment. Their curiosity and resilience inspire me to extend that same grace to myself. In marriage, I’m learning that intentional communication and mutual respect are forms of self-care that nurture both partners. My friendships, especially those rooted in the sisterhood of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., have taught me that even as an introvert, meaningful connections can be restorative when nurtured with authenticity and love.
Being an entrepreneur and college professor stretches me in ways I never imagined. There are days when I feel overwhelmed by deadlines, expectations, and the drive to create something meaningful. Yet, through it all, I’m discovering the power of pursuing my passion and living in my purpose. Each step — whether launching a new project, mentoring students, or creating content for my brand "Selfcare with Myra" — reinforces that I’m exactly where I need to be.
As I close out this year, I’m embracing reflection not as a way to critique what I could have done better, but as a celebration of how far I’ve come. I’m learning that self-care isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress. It’s about showing up for myself, honoring my journey, and being intentional about living a life aligned with purpose and passion. I invite you to take a moment this season to reflect on your own journey. What lessons have you learned? How can you nurture your well-being while embracing all the roles you play? Let's move forward with gratitude and self-awareness, ready to step boldly into the new year.
